MPs demand ouster of Minister Koirala

Kathmandu, Jan 16 2008 - Nepal's Interim Parliamentarians in the today’s parliamentary meeting criticized Ms. Sujata Koirala, Jost for her remarks favoring space for monarchy in the constituent assembly.

“It is imperative that the assembly provides space for all the layers of the Nepali society, so the monarchy must also be included”, Koirala had said talking to a select group of journalists in Biratnagar, last week.

Ms. Koirala was recently elevated as the country’s minister without a portfolio by her ailing and frail father Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.

Lila Mani Pokharel, the Janmorcha-Nepal Parliamentarian said, “Ms. Koirala’s remarks are aimed at demeaning the constitution, she neither has the right to hold the position of a minister nor can she continue as a member of the parliament”, Pokharel said.

“There is no space for the monarchists in the interim parliament”, said Shanta Shrestha adding, “Her remarks has raised a big question mark on the very intention of the Nepali Congress Party to hold the CA poll”.

The interim legislatures, Prakash Jwala, Padma Lal Bishwakarma, Kaman Singh Lama criticizing Ms. Koirala favored her ouster from the member of the Interim Parliament.
